Meet Our Property Manager, Jenica!

Jenica
by Toni Keesee

When you meet Jenica, you instantly know you’ve met a new friend. She’s so easy to talk to and exudes care and consideration. We’re proud to call her our Property Manager, and wanted to take a moment to introduce her here on the blog. I had a lot of fun asking her questions recently and getting to know her better, so I could share some fun facts with you below. Enjoy!

Deep Roots in Cayman

Jenica is a generational Caymanian with local heritage that stretches back to the 1800s. “We go way back,” she chuckled. She has Watlers, Merrens, Boddens and Rivers lineage. Her maternal grandfather, Sibert Watler, served as the first Serjeant-At-Arms in the Cayman Islands from 1974-1986 and received accolades from none other than Queen Elizabeth II herself!

Bert Watler

Jenica's grandfather Sibert Watler was Cayman's first Serjeant-At-Arms. He named Jenica after finding her name in a book as a Romanian form of Jane, Jenica's mom’s name.

As a kid she lived in Bodden Town—her first home was right next to the historical Mission House (which you can tour today). Her grandparents were the very last residents of the Mission House! While the house sat vacant next door, she and her cousins would often play inside.

When she was a kid Grand Cayman moved much slower and was much quieter than today. Jenica spent a lot of time playing with her twelve cousins. “We were very family oriented.” She was proud to share one thing that hadn’t changed was that the island was safe then and safe now.

Love for the Island

Safety is one of many things that she says sets Cayman apart. Another? Cayman’s beautiful, clean beaches that are for everyone to enjoy. “We welcome everyone.”

She also shared, “Our culture and heritage are still very much intact. We still cherish and celebrate it.” There are many events, museums and sites to experience while here that will give you a glimpse of Cayman’s rich heritage.

If you want a taste of Jenica’s favorite Caymanian dish keep your eyes peeled for stew turtle.

The Road to CCC

Exuding love for the island is one of the best ingredients a property manager can have. When I asked what drew her to the tourism industry, she said she fell into it naturally. Welcoming guests to the island she loves so much was and still is a joy. She spent ten years at a property called Avalon before joining us here at Christopher Columbus Condos. We are so glad she’s here.

Prior to working in tourism, Jenica went to college in Tampa and earned a degree in Finance. She spent a decade working in the financial industry which explains why she enjoys the break from a traditional office job. She loves social interaction with people and the variety that every new day brings.

Family, Friends & Hobbies

Outside of work Jenica enjoys snorkeling with her son Noah. They collect rocks, sea shells and sea fans. She also enjoys spending time with her two year old daughter, Natalya and husband, Danny. And being in Cayman she takes advantage of watching the gorgeous sunsets every chance she gets.

Running is a hobby she has long enjoyed. She has run two half marathons and a full marathon including the half marathon that takes place in Cayman every December. For her marathon and other half she crossed the finish line in Miami.

When she’s not running here, there and everywhere you can find Jenica enjoying time with family and friends. Her favorite restaurant for a casual outing is Macabuca, and for a celebration Tukka is her go to.

CaymanKind

It’s clear that Jenica brings heart, history, and hospitality to everything she does. From her deep Caymanian roots to her love for meeting new people, she’s the kind of person who makes you feel instantly welcome—and truly at home. Whether she’s managing the day-to-day at CCC, snorkeling with her son, or lacing up her shoes for another run, Jenica lives and breathes the Cayman spirit. She embodies the CaymanKindness that the island is known for. We feel incredibly lucky to have her on our team.
